Designer Profile: Locker 13

During the Look of the Irish exhibition we thought we’d like to give you the chance to get to know some of the designers whose work we are featuring in store. At designist we’re all about demystifing where stuff comes from, be that ideas, materials or manufacturing processes. All we often get to see is the end product, so we thought it would be nice to get some insight into the personalities behind them, so we asked our designers some designery and some not so designery questions.

Today we’d like to introduce Locker 13.

Locker 13 is the collaboration of designers Karl Medcalf and Shane Wilson.  Close friends from childhood, they both graduated with degrees in Industrial Design from the National College of Art and Design in 1999, and ten years later, the time was finally right to launch Locker 13.  Their goal is simple: to design original, unique and beautiful furniture. They believe there is a place, somewhere between high end furniture and the expansive furniture ‘supermarkets’, for clever, desirable and affordable furniture, and as they say, ‘If we’re wrong?  Well, we’re going to do it anyway.’  Looking at their work from the comfort vases to the Sadhbh table, we are sure they are right.
