New to the Parish is a selection of 14 stories from The Irish Times series of the same name by journalist Sorcha Pollak. Sorcha'sown grandfather was a Czech Jewish politicalrefugee who arrived in Ireland in 1948, and from this perspective she offers a deep understanding of what makes aperson leave their native land to start a new life abroad. Ireland has changed and evolved over recent decades with the arrival of people from all over the world, hoping for a better life on our fair isle.
These are the stories of people who have cometo Ireland for work, education, retirement, loveand in some cases, out of necessity, forced fromtheir homes by death and destruction.
