Before Ireland was colonised, it was a culture with a deeply spiritual relationship to the Earth and the sea, and Manchán argues that, deep down, we are still connected to these old ways. Perhaps by reconnecting with what our ancestors once knew to be true, we can create a renewed relationship to our land, our traditions, and each other.

With a focus on mythology, early law, folklore and placenames, Manchán traces how the Irish psyche was shaped by its forests, sacred trees and landscapes.
