Belfast Sink Candle
This miniature version of a design Icon makes a lovely gift (especially for yourself). The original Belfast sinks were made in Belfast in the 17th century and have come in and out of fashion ever since.
They're a symbol of both practicality and excess, as they were only found in well-to-do houses with more than one sink. They are larger than London or Butler style sinks, as fresh water was more plentiful in Belfast, and have an overflow that helps them drain faster. These days, you'll often find them in a utility rather than the main kitchen, as the extra depth makes them great for bigger jobs, but the hardness of the ceramic can be hard on your glassware.
This miniature version contains a lovely glasshouse candle, with a fresh botanical scent - a nod to the use of old Belfast sinks as planters for herbs and flowers. Once it's burnt through, there are candle refills available in a variety of scents, or the empty sink makes a great soap dish, jewellery container, or even plant pot.
What's it made from?
Glazed Ceramic with a 2-wick candle.
How does it come?
In a box with a short history of the Belfast sink. It can be refilled when you've burnt through the candle. Sink is approx 11 x 8 x 5.3 cm.
