The Hike Life
A life long hiker, Roz Purcell grew up at the foot of Sliabh Na mBan in Tipperary, which was her childhood playground and escape from the jobs on the farm. She's always used hiking as a way to switch off and reset from the demands of life. When she started sharing her hiking journeys on social media in 2018 through the Hike Life she discovered that the main barriers to getting people hiking weren't motivation or inspiration but knowledge, confidence and community so she set about building it. Five years later and she has an active online community and an annual schedule of hikes throughout Ireland.
Hoping to encourage more people out on the mountains, particularly women, she has published a comprehensive guide to 50 hikes around Ireland broken up into provinces with detailed descriptions, enticing imagery, difficulty levels and suggested pit stops for food, swimming and places to visit along the way. The book is also packed with recommendations for how to prepare, what to pack and what to do if you get into difficulty so you feel as confident as possible before you set off.
