Notes to Self

A brutally honest, heartfelt and very well-written collection of personal essays by Emilie Pine. A review in The Irish Times by Martina Evans says "It's the kind of book you want to give to everyone, especially young women and men, so that we can learn together to take ourselves and each other more seriously." The first of six essays describes a trip to Greece with her sister to take care of her alcoholic dad who's been admitted to hospital with liver failure. Although a heavy subject matter, these are every day experiences for many people, which Pine describes in an easy, humourous and empathetic manner. The remaining essays in Notes to Self provide a refreshing take on such subjects as addiction, fertility, feminism, sexual violence and depression. Notes to Self is raw, funny and honest and well worth a read.
