The Politics of Design
This is a compact little book that really packs a punch. It's filled with little-known anecdotes, historical facts, pieces of advice and lessons learnt from real and often embarrassing communication design experiences. It covers several topics in depth like Language & Typography, Colour & Contrast, Symbols & Icons, Image & Photography, to name but a few. The book is not about the design of propaganda or political parties. The author (and the many contributors to the book) talk about how all design is political. They draw attention to issues that should be obvious but are often overlooked by designers, like misinforming graphics, ethnic and gender stereotypes and cultural appropriation. This book should be put into the hands of everyone working in design today. And also probably in the hands of everyone else since we all have to face the work of designers every day.
