As a female run business, International Women's Day has a particular resonance with us. We love retail, and we love the opportunity it affords us to work with so many talented designers and makers.
So as our little way of celebrating, we have listed a few of the many female-led businesses we currently work with here at designist.
Sarah & Olive
As a chef, food writer and sustainable food entrepreneur, Sarah has always been passionate about great ingredients. She lived and worked in Spain for many years as a professional chef and this led her to working with a small collection of olive oil producers dedicated to producing some of the finest olive oils in the business. These are oils that aren't mass-produced or generic but individual and full of personality, and are really really tasty.
Hawthorn Handmade Skincare
Elaine is the maker behind Hawthorn Handmade Skincare. She lovingly handcrafts all of the products from her family farm in the heart of County Mayo and her recipes have all been carefully formulated to nourish the skin using the highest quality botanical ingredients. Having a deep connection to nature and a strong sense of the need to conserve the natural world around us, Elaine strives to keep her ingredients as natural, and packaging as recyclable and sustainable as possible.
The Munio
New to designist, Elina, Laura and Liene are the trio behind The Munio. A family run business based in Latvia, they produce some very lovely Candle Making Kits. Using only 100% natural soy wax and fragrances they are inspired by the Northern landscape. They try to produce their products as sustainably as possible, reducing plastic wherever they can and putting a strong emphasis on natural, vegan friendly ingredients.
labienhecha
Labienhecha is a female led business that produces stunning recycled leather handbags. They are founded on three principles: to create a quality, ecological product made in Málaga; to grow conscience alongside sustainability; and to empower women. Everything they produce is done so with integrity and great design, using recycled, certified sustainable and quality materials.
Irish SockSciety
The irish socksciety are Alex and Joanna, a pair of best friends based in Galway who dance, laugh and work together. And they are passionate about designing socks. Using bright patterns, bold design and some very funny irish words, these socks brighten up any occasion from a boring business meeting to a wonderful wedding, lunch with family or party with mates.
Lucy Hagerty of La Bougie and Crop Candles
La Bougie and
Crop are two very different, but equally stunning ranges of handmade candles developed and made by expert perfumer Lucy Hagerty. Based in Co. Cork, Lucy is constantly coming up with new scent and blends to delight. Perfectly balanced, and expertly mixed, each fragrance captures a moment in time. From fresh Irish Rain, to Tuscan Bergamot, each candle has it's own unique story.
May Bear
May Bear is a Galway-based design studio which was started by Katie whilst on maternity leave. Her clean and simple designs are well loved at designist and we stock a wide range of of May Bear cards for all occasions. Committed to making choices that are kind to the planet, May Bear cars are made from FSC certified card, recycled envelopes and compostable cello sleeves.
Lainey K.
Award winning Lainey K is run by Elaine Kellegher and was born out of her love for typography, illustration and all things design led. Her great sense of humour comes across in buckets through each card, and they are wonderfully, perfectly Irish in their wit.
Tee & Toast
With the help of
many cups of tea, designer and illustrator Claire Mullan makes unique cards and things that will make you smile. Her cheery style and bright colour palette is a joy to look at and her
tea-tastic cards and poolbeg rompers are firm favourites here.
Mum of 2, founder Sophie has been developing Stork & Co. into an Irish children's brand that produces super soft, snuggily and very wearable baby products for modern families. Using organic cotton and bamboo they are striving to be as sustainable as they can.
................................................................................
To these and to the many other women who are and have designed, drawn and made brilliant things for designist over the years (I know, I've missed bucket of ye off the list!) - thank you.
