hanging around at designist: umage focus

We are fond of a good lightshade here at designist. And we have been particularly taken by these shades by Umage. This Danish company pride themselves in creating high quality, affordable design, while also having a genuine care for the environment.

Indeed the word 'UMAGE' is a Danish word meaning ‘making an effort’. We think their products perfectly encapsulate this feeling and idea.

We have a number of lightshades here; from the simple curves of the Ribbon, to the elegant drop of the Alva, the ornate Lora and gentle flows of the Carmina, each shade has it's own unique qualities and sensibilities. Made from precut sheets of plastic, each shade comes flat packed and ready for you to assemble. And if reading instructions aren't your thing, Umage have a pile of clear, concise videos online showing just how to put each shade together. From the Ribbon which contains 3 pieces, to the Lora which has 64, they come with varying levels of construction. Once built they hang from pendants or sit on stands, changing as the light around them does.

And if you want to take the creativity to the next level, why not try out the Silvia Create shade? Rather than being made out of plastic sheeting, this light shade is made from water colour paper, so you can decorate and design it to suit your space. And then want to change the design? We even sell separate sheets for it, so you can change it over and over and over again.

There is much to love about these shades by Umage, from their elegant style, considered design and clever construction - they are bound to smarten up any room
