paying it forward

One of my fav. things about humans is our ability to pull together in tough times.

In an effort to help independent business all over Ireland, Small + Local was created. It has a lovely interactive map and the list of businesses on it are going by the day.

What is particularly nice about this website is that it is connecting independent businesses from around the country - I for one am delighted to find so many really delightful little gems.

And for those businesses that can not trade at this very point, for whatever reason, why not buy a gift voucher from them to redeem when they open their doors again? This 'paying it forward' is a really practical way to provide much needed cash flow to struggling businesses that will help ensure their survival.

There is no denying it that times are going to get pretty though for many over the next while. But with initiatives such as this, we have the opportunity to support those small businesses that add colour, vibrancy and soul to our high streets across Ireland.

This website builds on the Just a Card campaign launched by Sarah Hamilton. Just a Card aims to encourage people to support, value and buy from artists, designers, independent shops and small businesses by reinforcing the message that all purchases, however small are vital to their prosperity and survival. It was devised after Sarah saw a quote from a recently closed shop owner "If everyone who'd complimented our beautiful gallery had bought 'just a card' we'd still be open".
