An absolute classic in design studies, This beautiful Catalogue by Vitra Design Museum opulls together Victor Papanek's (designer, author and design activist) research and studies into understanding of design as a tool for political change and social good.

He was one of the very first designers in the mainstream arena to critically question design and how it impacted on our social and ecological world and the consequences this could and did have. By questioning designs relationship with everyday life, he sought to introduce a new set of ethical questions into the design field.

This book is brimming with photographs, designs, drawings, letters and other materials gathered and generated by Papanek and those he was in conversation with; Richard Buckminster Fuller, George Nelson, and Marshall McLuhan. Work by more contemporary designers - such as Catherine Sarah Young and Gabriel Ann Maher - are also examined to demonstrate how Papanek's interpretation of design as a tool for change is as relevant as ever and continues to shape debate on social design, critical thinking and design thinking.
