Weird Ireland - An Unofficial Guide to the Island.
This book is a fascination look at modern folk lore. All around Ireland there are frankly weird pheomenons: singing walls, fairy rings, holy wells, magnetic hills, moving statues. Often things that started as in-jokes quite literally gone viral in a particular place, or with a particular community. We don't tend to question them too much but when added up in this witty and precise book they go to show just what an odd place Ireland can be.
Weird Ireland started as a series on tic-tok and instagram where a faceless Brinsley McNamara (author of the valley of the squinting windows) travels around visiting these strange places. His signature sign off is see you somewhere esle in Weird Ireland, which is reminisceint of "believe it, if you like" from Pajo's jukebox in the 1980's, but it also has a stong connection to a particularly entertaining episode of The Gerry Ryan show where Brenda would be dispatched somewhere across Ireland to cover these pheomenons.
