Written by the award winning owners of Izz Café in Cork Izzeddeen Alkarajeh and Eman Aburabi this lovely book gives you a brilliant insight into Palestinian food. It starts with a warm introduction, much like what you'd recieve on a visit to the cafe, and an explaination of the main ingredients you'd find in a Palestinian pantry, followed by easy to prepare recipes peppered with serving suggestions, variations, and cultural references.
They  take you on a culinary journey of their homeland, including sumac-dusted roast chicken on flatbread (musakhan), bite-size dumplings (shish barak), stuffed pickled aubergines (makdous) and knafeh, the syrupy, cheese-stuffed pastry cake. While the majority of the dishes are excellent versions of Palestinian favourites there are a few twists like the Paddystinian Balls - made from potato and coated in crushed Tayto crisps.

Izz & Eman have been serving top-quality Palestinian food from the cafe since 2019. , including the always-popular manaeesh, steaming fresh pittas, traditional homemade desserts and their own house-roasted coffee, Izz Café has become a much-loved destination in the heart of Cork.

The title Jibrin (pronounced Jib-REEN), comes from Eman’s family hometown in Palestine (Beit Jibrin). In sharing their stories, recipes and traditions in Jibrin, Izz and Eman remind us that food is more than sustenance – it’s a language through which we express love, respect and belonging.
