great gift

This beautifully presented book is twofold. It is a carefully curated mix of poems, song lyrics, ponderings, debates, and deliberations, all centered around the tree from a diverse range of writers, expertly put together by Katie Holten. It is a contemplative art piece that sees trees themselves converted into an alphabet which then in turn mirrors each story in their own language.

From the green font to the delicate drawings throughout, this book is a treat to look at as well as read.

We hear about the Future Library in Oslo where a thousand trees have been planted to supply the paper for a special anthology of books that have been collected and will only be printed in 100 years' time, we learn about how trees in a forest can communicate with each other, we read diary like extracts that ponder a childhood mishap with a fig tree, and learn how to make sun tea from fresh evergreen tree tips.

This book gently flows from poem to musing to scientific fact in an all-absorbing manner that make it nearly impossible to put down.

We have a great collection of books at designist. Maybe you need a gift for the garden? Or just to say thanks?
