The Reverse Centaur's Guide to Life After AI

In The Reverse Centaur’s Guide to Life After AI, prolific author Cory Doctorow argues that the positive, real-world applications that AI models possess are being obscured by our tech overlords, who are using AI to replace workers, destroy the planet, and enrich themselves in the process.

Doctorow also pushes back against what he calls the inevitabilism of AI, reminding readers that we have a choice as to how we use technology in our society. He sees the problem not as the technology itself, but who is using the technology and how they are using it.

Far from being a depressing read, Doctorow is extremely optimistic about the positive applications of AI for regular people in the future. He cites present day examples, such as the Human Rights Data Analysis Group using AI to help sort through massive amounts of data on wrongful arrests, police violence, and police abuse in the United States. 

Recommended for anyone who wants to understand how we got into this AI mess, and what the future might look like after the AI bubble inevitably bursts.
