Finish journal by Leuchtturm

Can we talk about motivation for a minute?

Years ago I did Going for Growth and one of the amazing mentors who ran a sales growth company said something that's always stuck with me: the reason most sales companies send their staff for sales training wasn't that they expected people to do things differently, it was so they wouldn't quit.

Staying motivated is very tricky, just knuckling down and getting on with it is extremely hard, it's why there are so many fad diets, trendy kitchen appliances, and revolutionary organisational systems out there, we need novelty to help us stay at the mundane tasks in our lives, to keep us on track, and working towards a goal, no matter what it is.

I'm pretty cynical when it comes to motivational tools. I've never been able to practice affirmations, and inspirational quotes make me cringe but I was pretty intrigued by Leuchtturms new Finish journal. There is something very alluring about the promise of a notebook that will help you finish something you've managed to start.

Broken down into 4 parts - results, actions, time and motivation., it's really a question of designing your goal in a measurable way. The added secret sauce is a motivational portfolio - a list of every expanding thing you can use to keep you on track, from little rewards when you get to certain points, to reminders of why the goal is important to you in the first place, anything that will help you stay on track when it gets tough, and the more things you have in the portfolio the more resilient you will be.

The journal is peppered with pity quotes throughout as part of this motivational portfolio and I don't know if it always stays entirely on the right side of inspirational quotes, but maybe I need to lighten up and allow myself to be cheered on by a notebook just this once. I'm gonna give it a try anyhow.
