Cead Mile Failte Tote Bag
This tote in the colours of the Irish flag reads Cead Mile Failte or One hundred thousand welcomes. And while you could say it was a little bit over the top, the fact that this phrase is in such common use, just goes to show how a warm welcome is an essential part of the Irish Psyche. As a nation, our largest export has always been people, which might be the reason hospitality is so close to our hearts. You give the welcome you hope you might recieve abroad.
The flag itself symbolizes inclusion, with green representing Irish nationalists/Catholics, orange representing the Protestant minority, and white signifying the hope for peace and lasting union between them and was inspired by the French flag.
While the Irish language has been used in the past as a way to exclude and sow division, much has been done to reclaim it. Including your cupla focail, no matter how limited, is now the height of fashion. Less so with the flag, which despite its meaning has been taken up as a symbol of exclusion. We thought combining these two ideas into an object you can wear to express both your national pride and inclusiveness felt like a good idea.
