Stop your Shenanigans
It's no secret that we're going through a bit of an Irish language revival at the minute, with more and more folks looking for a cúpla focal to throw into casual conversation. In this pocket-sized book, author and native Connemara speaker Micheál Ó Conghaile presents some of his favourite words that can be used in daily life, many of them in the Irish language, and some that are used in anglicised forms.
Ó Conghaile goes beyond simply teaching you words, giving the fascinating history behind where the word actually comes from. For example, did you know that the word hooligan is likely derived from the surname Ó hUallacháin, which was said to belong to a rowdy Irish family living in London in the 1890s?
This is a humorous and insightful look at the origins of some of Ireland’s more colourful and interesting words. It will give you a whole appreciation for Irish words as living, breathing things, and the journey they go through as they're passed down from generation to generation, as well as taking your Irish conversation to the next level.
